DIANAH SMITH

Documentarian: David James Fernandes

In this audio recording of a presentation made earlier in 2007 at a cultural community event in Hull, Dianah shares her poignant story of what it was like working the night shift as teenager with her father’s cleaning crew at an Ottawa-area factory.

These early, young experiences in the workforce as struggling newcomers to Canada have had an indelible impact on Dianah, following her well into adulthood.

She proudly shares those memories in order that people can see firsthand – through her eyes – what a newcomer’s life and struggle really look like.
