In an interview with Don Kossick of Making Links Radio (edited exclusively for Changing the Canvas), Cecilia tells it like it is about the human rights abuses faced by too many women from the Philippines, and about what the Canadian government isn’t doing about them. As a long-time advocate on behalf of Filipino communities in Canada, Cecilia knows first hand the employment-related challenges facing new immigrants. It seems Canada’s evolving labour market has carved out a particular place for Filipino women, chiefly in the domestic and health care sectors, and a whole lot of problems to go along with it. Cecilia’s work with the Montreal Filipino Women’s Centre and the National Alliance of Philippine Women in Canada has brought her up close and personal with thousands of stories of racism and employment injustice, and to the front-lines of the struggle to improve the system.
